Katogi Averoff Estate

From late 1950’s ownwards, Katogi red became the first greek wine that could be described as super premium – with prices that seemed extremely high at the time and yet consumers were going to Metsovo, to the Great Britain Hotel or to the super market Vassilopoulos in Psichiko in order to buy just one or two bottles, which was the maximum limit, set E. Averof himself. In the next decades, the vision of E. Averoff, one of the most important politicians of the 20th century, evolved and matured. The range of Katogi wines developed and embraced the preferences of the consumers and the potential of Metsovo vineyards, as well as those of Naoussa and Peloponese. The Katogi Averoff estate became a unique, for Greece, centre of wine tourism, with a specially designed visitors area and a 4* hotel . Although the winery is located in high altitude, the wines of Katogi have firmly their feet on the ground, like very few.
